Installation and Upgrade Changes

The following changes were made regarding the installation or upgrade of Zoomdata 4:

  1. An upgrade to Zoomdata 4 requires a new license. Your old license will no longer work with this release. Please contact Zoomdata Technical Support to obtain one.

  2. A new script utility is provided to assist with installations and upgrades of Zoomdata. This new utility replaces the installer script (now deprecated) used for previous Zoomdata versions. Contact Zoomdata Technical Support for details.

  3. Manually upgrading Zoomdata 4.1 or later no longer provides the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) needed for Zoomdata to start. Make sure you have Java 8 (1.8.0_131) or later installed before you manually install or manually upgrade to Zoomdata version 4. If you do not, Zoomdata will not start.

An option to install OpenJDK is included in the installation and upgrade scripts provided by Zoomdata. If you skip this option or if you install or upgrade the product manually, make sure that Java 8 (or later) is installed.

  4. The use of the Zoomdata Scheduler microservice has been deprecated in this release. Because of this change, migration steps must be performed to upgrade to Zoomdata 4. See Zoomdata Scheduler Migration.

  5. The Zoomdata Streamwriter microservice was renamed the Data Writer microservice.

    • Its new microservice name is zoomdata-data-writer-postgresql.service.
    • The new properties file is called
    • All of the original Streamwriter microservice properties have been renamed with data-writer replacing streamwriter in their property names. The following Data Writer properties must be set:

      Property Description Default
data-writer.service.url The Data Writer microservice URL http://localhost:8081/‌ The Data Writer microservice name data-writer
  6. The Zoomdata upload microservice is deprecated. The following upload microservice properties are now renamed and can be configured in the file.

Upload microservice Property Name Data Writer microservice Property Name
    upload.service.url data-writer.service.url
    upload.http.client.connect.timeout.milliseconds data-writer.http.client.connect.timeout.milliseconds data-writer.http.client.write.timeout.milliseconds
    upload.http.client.write.timeout.milliseconds data-writer.http.client.write.timeout.milliseconds

These property changes should not affect normal Zoomdata instances after they are upgraded. If you have altered any of values of the properties listed above, those values are automatically migrated to the new properties during the upgrade process.

  7. The use of RabbitMQ has been deprecated. RabbitMQ is no longer a dependency and can be uninstalled from existing installations after you upgrade.

  8. When you upgrade to Zoomdata 4, the upgrade code automatically converts your existing user definitions:

    • Any users assigned the deprecated Groups Only role are migrated unchanged, but without the role assignment. They remain assigned to the groups you had assigned them to before.
    • Any users who had been assigned the deprecated User role, are assigned to the new View All group.
    • Any users who had been assigned the deprecated Admin role are assigned to the new Administrators group. In addition, if you already had a group defined that was named "Administrators," the upgrade code will rename it to a name in the format Administrators-<uuid>, where <uuid> is the universal unique identifier of the group definition.
