Working With Time and Filters
You can add time attributes when you create a new filter and control the filter from the time bar. This allows you to narrow the scope of the data by time. You can also set a filter directly in the time bar.
|Filters applied in the Filters menu override any filters you set in the time bar.|
The filters you create and the actions you set with the time bar influence the visualized data on your chart. Depending on the settings and how they interact, it is possible that the combined result returns no data. This is because the time filters that you set and the filters in the time bar are mutually exclusive. As a result, there is no data to display, so the intersection of the two time filters provides no result.
When you select a Time attribute, you can set the time range that you want displayed on a chart.
To set a time range for a filter:
Click the filter icon () on the chart or dashboard or select Filters from the chart menu (). The dashboard-level filter icon is available only when all the charts are from the same data source.
The Filters sidebar appears.
Click . Three tabs appear allowing you to select a row-level filter, a group filter, or a saved filter.
Select Row and then select a time field you want to use from the list. The Filters sidebar shows time options.
The Time Range sidebar has three options: Filter by Range, Time Presets or Keysets. Use one of these options to specify the filter details for the time attribute.
If you expand Filter by Range, the Filters sidebar shows From and To boxes to specify the time range for the filter.
Click to set from and to dates for the filter. Click to set from and to times for the filter.
If you set a month (or year) as a start date, your chart data displays starting from 12:00:00 a.m. of the first day of the selected month (or year). If you set a month (or year) as an end date, your chart data displays through 11:59:59 p.m. of the last day of the selected month (or year).
If you expand Time Presets, you can specify a predefined time period for the filter. Locate and select the preset setting you want. Descriptions of each of the preset options are provided in Preset Time Ranges.
Click to select a keyset on the Keysets tab to use for the filter. See Using Keysets.
After the filter specifics have been specified, click Apply. If you create the filter at the dashboard level, it is applied to all the charts in the dashboard. Otherwise, it is applied only to the selected (active) chart.
